Deadline for entry: March 8th
Exhibition:March 29th - May 17th
Folktales, like art, try to make sense of our existence and help us cope with the world around us. We are asking Olmsted County artists to produce artwork that illustrates or is inspired by a folktale.
Up to twenty-four pieces will be selected for display in the gallery, a maximum of 8 from each of the following age groups: 5-12, 13-17, and 18+. The gallery walls are secured behind glass and located just inside the Youth Services area on the first floor. The show will be juried by Rochester Public Library Youth Services staff. Selections will be made based on relevance to the theme, adherence to technical guidelines (below), artistic merit, craftsmanship, originality, and completeness of the application. Artists will be notified via e-mail or phone regarding the display of their artwork.
All artists must be residents of Olmsted County at the time of submission. All styles and media will be accepted, but work must be 2 dimensional, sized within 12”wide x 12”high x 1”deep. If they wish, artists may pick up a 12” x 12” panel upon which to create their art at the Youth Services information desk. All submissions must be original works of art. Submissions can be entered electronically via email or dropped off in person. Physical submissions not chosen must be picked up by the start date of the exhibition. Selected artwork that arrives unframed or unmounted will be hung by the best method determined by YS staff.
There is no entry fee.
