How do authors find ideas, write and publish their stories? Meet famous Minnesota author, Douglas Wood, and discover how he writes the stories found in his popular books! Douglas Wood will speak about his writing process and share anecdotes and readings from his popular published works such as Old Turtle and Aunt Mary's Rose.
After the author's presentation, participants will be invited to create or work on their own individual stories.

YA Mural

A centerpiece of the young adult area is the large mural. This mural painted in 1998 was done by students from the area high schools. With the guidance of the Mayo High School art department these student put in long hours to complete the two part mural. The outside section is 41 feet long and 5 feet wide. The faces on the outside of the mural represent the diverse population of the world. The inside portion of the mural which measures 30 feet by 5 feet is painted with the rising and setting sun as well as portions of the Declaration of Human Rights.
