All Internet Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You need a Rochester/SELCO library card to log into the computers. Visitors not living in Rochester may get an Internet Only Card to use the Internet Computers. All patrons using our internet access will need to abide by our internet policies.
All patrons will be assigned to age-appropriate Internet Computer section (Adult, Young Adult, or Child):
Adults (18+ years old): There are 16 Adult Internet Computers located on second floor of the library. Among these computers are three stations with access to scanners. All have Office 2013 (including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint) installed.
Teens (13-18 years old): There are 6 internet stations in the TeenScape area of the library. These computers have Office 2013 (including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, OneNote) installed.
Children (12 years old and younger): There are 6 internet computers in the Children's section. Four of these computers have office 2013 (including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, OneNote) installed. The children's section also includes 2 computers for playing games (which do not require a library card to use).
Internet Computer Time Limits: Adults get 60 minutes for their initial session at an Internet Computer. On Sundays (and Saturdays during the summer) each person is limited to 30 minutes in their initial session (because of the shorter library hours). Children and teens are limited to 30 minutes for their initial session. If there is no one waiting for a computer after you finish your initial session, your time may be extended up to a total of 3 hours per day. All patrons are limited to a total of 3 hours per day.
For adults who want to use a computer to access the internet, but also want to remain in the Children's area to be with their young children, the library offers two laptops that can be checked out for in-library use. Stop at the desk in the Children's area to check one out.
There are 3 Word Processing Computers on the second floor of the library. These computers do not require a library card to use and have no time limits as long as no one else is waiting to use them. All three computers have Microsoft Office 2013 software installed (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Publisher). These computer also have Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 (for photo editing) and Adobe Premiere Elements 11 (for video editing).
One of the Word Processing Computers also has a scanner.
None of three Word Processing Computers are connected to the internet, so bringing your own flash drive to save your work is recommended. The library has 2GB flash drives available for purchase at the Public Service desk on first floor for $10.00.
In addition to these computers, all of the Adult, TeenScape and Children's Internet computers have the Microsoft Office 2013 programs installed.
You may send a print job from any computer in the library (including the catalog computers). Print fees are $0.10 per sheet of paper printed with black ink and $0.25 per sheet of paper printed with color ink. Before you send your print job to the printer, be sure to select the correct setting (for B/W or Color).
Print jobs sent from library computers on the 1st floor will be sent to the printer behind the Fiction Movies and Music desk. Print jobs sent from library computers on the 2nd floor will be sent to the print station near the internet computers.
Print jobs will not begin printing until you go to the print station, select your job from the print station monitor, and put the appropriate money in the machine to pay for your print job.
