Threads of our Community Quilt
The recently completed "Threads of Our Community" quilt is currently on display at the top of the stairs on the 2nd floor of the library. The quilt contains 55 blocks representing 40 different countries/cultures/backgrounds. While you really need to come see it in person to appreciate how beautiful it is, you can get a preview of how it looks by looking at our Threads of Our Community web page. On this web page, you can find out more about the quilters who contributed blocks, by clicking on the individual blocks of the quilt photo. Books that contain all of the biographies are also available for sale at the Friends of the Library Bookstore.
A Celtic Evening
There will be a special fundraiser for the Rochester Public Library on
TUESDAY 30 November 2010.
Join us for a whisky tasting event as we celebrate St Andrews Night (the
patron saint of Scotland).

Friends' Bulletin Board
The Friends' Bulletin Board is located to the right of the Public Service desk, on the wall across from the bookdrop.
We use this space to bring attention to current events of the Friends, the Friends' Bookstore, Book Sales, the Foundation, and the Rochester Public Library. Seasonal themes highlight the current activities, including the AGM, the annual coffee, Art Walk, and Author Visits. We post photos, brochures, news articles, posters, as well as information boxes on Book Sales (dates and times) or special projects and programmes (purchasing the laminator, the Community quilt, etc).
We try to highlight some of our volunteers, provide a forum for exchange of
information (book reviews, book recommendations, and some fun through book
quotes and literary cartoons. The space is updated regularly (20 times a
year) so check it out!
Social Media

Friends events are also posted on the library's facebook and twitter sites and our new bookstore blog.
The Friends’ Bookstore is always looking for more ways to find customers and patrons. We are beginning to join the technology age, with faster computers, bookscanners, and now our very own BLOG. The site is being maintained by one of our volunteers who is a voracious reader of the Library as well as a loyal patron of the Friends Bookstore. She intends, over the course of this year, to blog books that she has read, is reading, or hopes to read. Many of the books are from the library; others were great buys found in the Bookstore.
People are welcome to comment, add their own book opinions,
author reports, books that they have found, or perhaps
even questions or suggestions.
The site will be linked to the Library, and the Friends’ of the
Library Web pages.
Please join us soon, both on the Internet and in the Friends' Bookstore!
