The Friends of the Rochester Public Library is a non-profit organization of community people dedicated to strengthening the public library, promoting awareness and use of library services, building community and financial support, and encouraging volunteer involvement. We are very proud of our history of supporting the library. Our current board is involved in a number of activities which encourage reading and literacy in the Rochester area. Please consider becoming a Friend's member and volunteer in the library or bookstore.

The Friends raise money through:

Various projects are supported through these efforts, including Read with Me, Author Visit Series, Rochester Reads, and library databases/software.

It is a stressful economic time for the library. By giving our volunteer time and financial support, the Friends make a meaningful contribution. For information call 507.328.2341.

We currently need volunteers for:

Second Saturday Special Sales in the Bookstore

Saturday Bookstore hours and evening shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Archiving newspaper articles

Winterfest 2012 Booksale in the Auditorium

The money that we raise is given to the Rochester Public Library to expand collections and to finance programs such as the Read With Me program which encourages early literacy by giving books to area newborns. A quarterly Friends' newsletter is sent to members with upcoming events and programs.

The Calendar lists events for Friends, with additional activities for the Foundation and the Library. Many of these events are published on the Friends and Friends' Bookstore blog, the Friends' facebook, the Library's facebook, blog, YouTube, Flickr, and twitter sites, as well as the bulletin board.
