Internet Stations

Internet Station Locations:
Internet stations are found in Information Services on the second floor, Young Adult area on the first floor and in the Children’s Division on the first floor.

Who may log on:
You MUST have a valid SELCO or RPL library card to use the Internet stations.

· Residents of Minnesota that don't live in Rochester or southeastern Minnesota, may obtain free Internet access with a home library card or picture ID
· Out of state visitors may purchase a card for $10 at the Adult Public Services Desk. This card is good for two months and gives check-out privileges as well as Internet privileges.
· An Internet only card, good for one hour is available to visitors with a picture ID.

Stations in the Children’s area may be used by children through the eighth grade.

General Rules:
Internet workstations are offered on a first-come, first served basis; you may not reserve an Internet workstation ahead of time.

Each person is allowed one hour a day at an Internet workstation. If no one is waiting, an option to extend the Internet session for a half hour is available. Please be prepared to vacate Internet workstations when your scheduled time is up. All printing or copying to disk must be completed or abandoned at the end of your scheduled time. If you leave before your time is finished, please log off the computer.

To log on:
Go to the Internet Reservation Station. Scan your library card number in and follow the directions on the screen to make a reservation. If an Internet PC is available, the reservation computer will display which Internet computer to use. If all the PCs are in use, you will be put on the waiting list. Watch the Queue Station PC to see when your reservation is assigned to an Internet PC. The Queue Station will tell you which PC to use. You have 5 minutes from when the PC is assigned to log in. Go to your assigned PC and enter your PIN number.

Printing/Downloading:
Proceed to the Print Station to pay for and pick up your printouts. Black and white prints are $.10/page; color prints are $.25/page.

If you wish to download files from the Internet, bring your own IBM formatted disk(s) or CD-ROMs. Disks may also be purchased at the Friends’ Bookstore or at the Public Service Desk.

Warning: Virus-checking software on the workstation will NOT protect your computer if you download program files to a floppy disk. If you are concerned about the possibilities of computer viruses, you should install and use virus protection software on your own computer. The library is not responsible for damage to personal disk.

Filtering:
PCs in the Children’s room and Young Adult areas have filtering software running.

Note: Filtering software is not a guarantee that all sites that you might find objectionable will be blocked. Filtering software may also block sites that you would not find objectionable.

Training:
Beginning Internet classes are offered periodically. Please sign up at the Reference Desk. Training on basic computer operations such as using Windows is NOT offered one on one or in a classroom by library staff.

Misuse:
Misuse of computers or Internet access as defined in the Internet policy will result in lost Internet privileges. A 30 day trespass notice may also be issued.
